ALTs make the evening news

television The topic of Assistant Language Teachers in public schools is heating up. In a report by a news program one parent complained that their child's class had seven different ALTs in a year. Bad working conditions are the obvious reason for the large turnover of ALTs.

Good education needs consistency - consistency for the students to develop a rapport with the teacher, and consistency for the ALTs to plan lessons that show a progression in learning. While the union agrees there are many good dispatched ALTs out there, we also believe hiring teachers directly would be a major step in improving English Education.
